Unlike other cards, commandants do not enter the deck, but instead each player has 1 on the arena from the start of the game. Commandant's faction determines the faction of the deck: player is only allowed to have cards of the same faction as their commandant and/or cards that are neutral. Each commandant has an HP (hit points) value that indicates both their starting and maximum HP. When commandant's HP is reduced to 0, their player loses the game. Each commandant has a draw ability that triggers during draw phase at the start of their player's turn (except for the initial player's first turn) and some can even declare attacks during the battle phase.
Units can enter the arena by being summoned, usually from hand. When a unit is summoned, their player pays its energy cost (EC) and places it in their unit zone. Units can declare attacks and they deal damage equal to their ATK (attack), they can't however do so on the very turn they are summoned. When unit's HP is reduced to 0, it is destroyed.
When a construct is played, it is placed face down in the construct zone. A face down construct is not yet considered to be in its player's control and cannot be targeted. Construct can be built by paying its EC and flipping it up, but this can't be done on the very turn that construct was played. Similiarly to units, constructs have HP, can be targeted by attacks and destroyed.
Chant card enters the arena when its player pays its EC and leaves when it's resolved or destroyed. Each chant can have various effects that are activated when they are played. Commandants, units and constructs can also have chants as activated abilities with EC value placed in square brackets. Those chants can be used by players who control said cards.
Response cards are very similiar to chants, except that their effects can only be activated in response to certain triggers. Unlike other types of cards, responses can also be played during opponents' turns. Commandants, units and constructs can also have responses as activated abilities with EC value placed in square brackets. Those responses can be used by players who control said cards.
